16 in Germany refers to suitable only for persons aged 16 years and over. It is a more specific page than 16, but still there are more than one rating system in Germany that altogether has the 16 classification. It may refer to:

Its corresponding color is blue with black text, formerly for USK its corresponding color is yellow with black text from 1994 to 2003 and blue with white text from 2003 to 2009. Equivalent to R (also equivalent to 16 (IFCO) and (FPB)) (Films), hard TV-14 and soft TV-MA (TV), and M17+ (Games). Despite this, even 16 or 17 year olds cannot be unaccompanied in a theater for performances that finish past midnight, they must be accompanied by an adult. Formerly known as "Geeignet ab 16 Jahren" from the USK from 1994 to 2003.

Trivia[]

  • Still, restrictions had applied to persons aged under 18 about cinema times, even at this rating and lower ratings. Adolescents from age 16 and 17 cannot stay unaccompanied in perfomances that end beyond midnight and it applies to lower age classifications, and those people who stay beyond midnight must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 years or older.
  • Formerly, USK's 16 had its corresponding color yellow with black text from 1994 to 2003 and blue with white text from 2003 to 2009.
  • Some films, TV programs, and video games that were rated 18 uncut were cut to receive this rating.
  • Saw III had to have a heavy cut (21 minutes) in order to receive this rating and the lesser-cut version received a 18 rating, while it received a SPIO/JK rating uncut, as well as R by the MPA cut as well as NC-17 by the MPA uncut.
  • It's important that note that video games rated 12 by PEGI and/or rated T by ESRB go into this category,
    • The principal reason why some PEGI 12 or ESRB T video games may be rated 16 by the USK is due to Germany's strict stance of violence than other regions. Example: Destroy All Humans! (2005)
  • Despite it is a direct equivalent to PEGI 16 in countries when legally enforced, those video games rated 16 by PEGI, on the other hand, may be rated 12 or 18 by the USK instead.
    • Like said above, the principal reason why some PEGI 16 video games may be rated 18 by the USK is due to Germany's strict stance of violence than other regions. Example: S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Clear Sky
  • Additionally, some games rated 18 by PEGI may be rated 16 by the USK instead.
  • Some films rated 15 by the BBFC went into the 18 category instead of 16 by the FSK. Examples: John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, John Wick: Chapter 4, and Once Upon A Time In China And America.
  • Some films that were rated 18 by the BBFC and/or 18 by the KMRB go into this category. For instance, Last Night in Soho (content advice by the BBFC: Strong bloody violence)
    • Even The Angels' Share (content advice by the BBFC: Contains very strong language, later passed 15 cinematic and video with cuts, no uncut theatrical release) despite rated 18 by the BBFC would not be intense enough to receive this category, in Germany it's a 12, despite aggressive and frequent uses of 'c**t'.
      • Exceptionally, Germany is very lenient on coarse language, very rarely it is a content issue on its own.
  • Interspecies Reviewers, while bordering on porn it does not cross the line and received this rating, with only one 18-rated episode.
