The Indonesia Game Rating System (IGRS) is an official video game content rating system founded and set by the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Informatics in 2016. IGRS rates games that are developed and/or published in Indonesia. There are 5 classifications of ratings based on the game's content, which includes the use of alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, violence, blood/gore, language, sexual content, and other objectionable elements.
Ratings[]
As of 2024, there are a total of six classifications:
- 3+ / Rating Usia 3 (Tiga) Tahun Keatas – Recommended for persons aged 3 and over.
- 7+ / Rating Usia 7 (Tujuh) Tahun Keatas – Recommended for persons aged 7 and over.
- 13+ / Rating Usia 13 (Tigabelas) Tahun Keatas – Recommended for persons aged 13 and over.
- 15+ / Rating Usia 15 (Limabelas) Tahun Keatas – Recommended for persons aged 15 and over (introduced in 2024).
- 18+ / Rating Usia 18 (Delapan Belas) Tahun Keatas – Recommended for persons aged 18 and over.
- RC / Konten Terlarang – Refused classification. The video game may not be advertised or sold anywhere within Indonesia (introduced in 2024).
As of November 2019, various imported PlayStation titles released since then have been rated by the IGRS after SIE Asia opened their Indonesian office. Those titles are also marked as "Official Indonesia Products" (Indonesian: Produk Resmi Indonesia).
The SU (from "Semua Umur") classification was retired in 2023, making 3+ the lowest classification available for video games.
Content descriptors[]
In 2023, IGRS began to use content descriptors that would be displayed alongside ratings, which initially appeared in the form of MUTCD-style warning road signs (Indonesia uses a road sign system that is similar to that of the United States' MUTCD). These have since been revamped to look more like the rating icons themselves. There are currently nine descriptors in use as of 2024.
- Bahasa Kasar (Language, lit. Coarse Language): Profane language is used. Before 2024, this descriptor was simply named "Bahasa" (Language).
- Darah, Mutilasi, dan/atau Kanibalisme (Blood, lit. Blood, Mutilation and/or Cannibalism): Blood, the mutilation of characters, and/or cannibalism is depicted.
- Horor (Horror): Frightening elements and themes are present.
- Interaksi Daring (Online Interactions): Users can interact with each other through the Internet. Before 2024, this descriptor was named "Interaksi Online", and was known in English as just "Online Interaction".
- Kekerasan (Violence): Physical conflict between characters is depicted.
- Penampilan Tokoh (Character Appearance):
- Rokok, Narkotika, Minuman Beralkohol (Drugs, lit. Cigarettes, Narcotics, Alcoholic Beverages) : Tobacco, alcoholic beverages, and drug use are depicted. Before 2024, this descriptor was named "Rokok, Alkohol & Narkoba (Cigarettes, Alcohol, & Drugs)".
- Sexualitas/Pornografi (Sexuality/Pornography): Sexual behavior, acts, situations, and images are depicted. Before 2024, this descriptor was referred to as "Seksual" (Sexual Content, lit. Sexual).
- Simulasi Judi (Gambling, lit. Gambling Situation): Gambling is depicted or performed. Before 2023, the English name for this descriptor was known by its more literal translation.
Retired descriptors[]
As IGRS began to refine its presentation once more, two of its initial eleven descriptors that were introduced in 2023 would be retired the following year.
- Penyimpangan Seksual (Sexual Deviance): Sexual behaviors seen as abnormal are depicted.
- Transaksi Keuangan (Financial Transactions): Players can make financial transactions through various means (e.g., microtransactions).
