This is a non-exhaustive list of television series that been modified in order to be censored.

Disney XD[]

  • Naruto Shippuden - All blood and gore were removed, sexual situations were reduced, and all mentions of death were removed, was censored for TV-PG rating.
  • Pokémon - Some episodes were banned from television.
  • Yo-Kai Watch - Outfits were edited to be more family-friendly and sexual references were removed, it was censored in order to get a TV-Y7-FV rating.
  • Beyblade Burst - The series was edited for some strong language to get a TV-PG or TV-Y7.
  • Doctor Who - The word "hell" is muted and the "hell" word is blurred.

  • The Walking Dead - Some scenes are re-shot in order to get rid of strong profanity, but are included on DVD. In addition, there is a syndicated edit that brings the violence and language down to a TV-14 level.

Comedy Central[]

  • Archer - Earlier reruns will have strong language bleeped out.
  • Brickleberry - Language and some nudity were censored.
  • Chappelle's Show - Daytime broadcasts will have more language edited out than later broadcasts.
  • Drawn Together - Strong language and nudity are censored on TV, but it's uncensored on DVD.
  • Futurama - Strong language is censored on both the TV broadcast, Netflix, iTunes, and the DVD was censored in order to get a TV-14 rating.
  • Reno 911! - Strong language is bleeped out on the TV broadcast in order to get a TV-14 rating, but the DVD is uncensored.
  • South Park - Strong language is censored on TV and the first ten seasons on DVD. But it's uncensored since Season 11. It's also uncensored in online streaming (HBO Max had every profanity such as the F word uncensored in all the seasons except season 1 and some of season 2). On TV, the word "s**t" was censored until season 15, South Park is Syndicated airings in order to get a TV-14 rating.

  • Bitten - Nudity is censored on the TV broadcast, the DVD is uncensored, in order to get a TV-14 rating.
  • Continuum - A fight scene with Emily in light pyjamas is re-edited in some versions to zoom in to avoid showing the visible outline of her nipples through the top and her butt in the pyjama shorts.
  • Caprica - Nudity and violence is censored in the pilot in order to get a TV-14 rating, but the DVD is uncensored.
  • Ghost in Shell - Nudity and strong language were censored when it aired on the Saturday anime block when it was the sci-fi channel in order to get a TV-14 rating.
  • Stargate SG-1 - Nudity was removed and violence was toned down in order to get a TV-14 rating. It is uncensored on the DVD.
  • Stargate Universe - In some versions in particular TV edits there is the removal of a scene where Lieutenant Scott is shown to be involved with Lieutenant Vanessa James prior to ending up on Destiny. This missing scene can lead to some confusion in a later episode where the relationship is referenced.
  • The Magicians - The TV broadcast censored strong language in order to get a TV-14 rating, it is uncensored on the Blu-ray.

  • Batman Beyond - Some violence is toned down in order to get a TV-Y7-FV rating.
  • Pokémon - Some episodes are censored due to sexual innuendo in order to get TV-Y7-FV rating.
  • Superman: The Animated Series - Some violence is toned down in order to get a TV-Y7 rating.
  • Tom and Jerry Tales - Despite the frequent violence, it is rated TV-Y, on Cartoon Network and Boomerang it is rerated TV-Y7.

  • Ren and Stimpy: Adult Party Cartoon - Strong language was bleeped out on TV broadcast, but the DVD is uncensored.

Fox is very strict when it comes to strong language. Shows with strong language are released under an edited version to maintain a TV-14 rating.

  • American Dad - When American Dad was on FOX many of the episodes were censored due to the networks strict standards on language but it's uncensored on DVD, in the episode "American Dream Factory", Steve gives Stan the finger remains uncensored, but censored on TV, iTunes, Hulu, and Netflix.
  • Bordertown (2016 TV Series) - Strong language is bleeped out on TV.
  • Bob's Burgers - Strong language is bleeped out on TV. Seasons 2-6 are rated TV-14 on TV.
  • Cops - Nudity and strong language are censored.
  • The Cleveland Show - Strong language is bleeped out on TV, iTunes, Hulu and Netflix, but the DVD is uncensored.
  • Family Guy - When Family Guy airs on FOX many of the episodes are censored due to the networks strict standards on language. Some episodes were completely removed, one such episode was the abortion episode "Partial Terms of Endearment" was banned due to concerns over its portrayal of the controversial subject of abortion, but the episode aired on BBC Three on June 20, 2010, but the DVD is uncensored, and in the episode "Deep Throats", Cleveland gives Brian the finger remains uncensored.
  • Futurama - Strong language is censored on both the TV broadcast and the DVD.
  • King of the Hill - Strong language is bleeped out on TV, iTunes, Netflix, DVD, and Blu-ray.
  • Son of Zorn - Strong language is bleeped out on TV.
  • The Simpsons - Strong language is bleeped out both on TV, iTunes, Hulu, DVD, and Blu-ray.
  • The X-Files - Strong language is bleeped out on TV, but the DVD is uncensored, The episode "Home" was removed from the network, due to being rated TV-14 for graphic violence and blood and banned from television and later in syndication but it's featured on DVD.

4Kids Entertainment[]

  • One Piece - Perhaps 4Kids' most notoriously censored title; it was heavily cut and modified to remove its dark elements and violence in order to get a TV-Y7-FV rating. Now that the show is owned by Funimation, they released the show uncut with a TV-14 rating.
  • Sonic X - Scenes of strong threat, mild profanity, and some cleavage were removed in order to get a TV-Y7-FV rating. Received an uncut subtitled release online with a TV-PG rating.
  • Yu-Gi-Oh! - Any scenes that showed strong violence were toned down, any mention of death was removed from the show and replaced with different words to keep the show more family friendly, any scenes with wine were changed to juice, and all guns on the show were removed. The character outfits were modified to be more kid friendly. Due to these changes the show was rated TV-Y7-FV.

History Channel[]

  • Vikings - Violence and nudity were either toned down or completely removed to get a TV-14 rating. The uncensored Blu-ray discs are rated TV-MA, strong language are bleeped out in the TV Broadcast.

  • 6teen - Some of the more obvious sexual jokes were cut to maintain a TV-PG rating, and 24 episodes were skipped over.
  • The Amazing World of Gumball - Some episodes were cut on television.
  • Blue Dragon - Sexual references were removed, and some violence was censored in order to get a TV-Y7-FV rating.
  • Dexter's Laboratory - The episode "Rude Removal" was banned due to the use of swear words, in order to get a TV-G rating.
  • Dragon Ball - All sexual references were removed some language was removed, the nudity on the show was censored, and the violence was toned down, blood was digital removed, and any mention of death was removed or altered.
  • G-Force Guardians of Space - Violence was toned down.
  • Looney Tunes - Some episodes were removed from broadcast TV due to racism, some of the violence was removed in order to be more family-friendly.
  • Mobile Suit Gundum - Nudity was censored.
  • Mobile Suit Gundum Seed - All sexual references were removed, cut any scene that showed the pilots in the cockpit before dying, any mention of drugs were cut, any mention of murder was removed, the words kill and die were removed and any scene that had blood were removed and any inappropriate language were removed.
  • Mobile Suit Gundum Wing - Some violence and language were cut, but it latter aired uncut on Adult Swim.
  • MGM Cartoons - Some episodes were removed from broadcast TV due to racism, some of the violence was removed in order to be more family-friendly.
  • Naruto - Blood effects were removed, though the uncensored DVD adds it back in.
  • Neon Genesis Evangelion - Alcoholic drinks were cut, some characters were completely removed. Language was censored, nudity and sexual innuendo were removed from the Cartoon Network broadcast. This only occurred for the first two episodes, and was later broadcast on Adult Swim with less censorship.
  • 77 Nubs - Fake identity aired on Adult Swim and received the TV-MA rating instead of TV-Y7. In the Uncontrolables swearing was censored to get the TV-Y7 rating.
  • One Piece - When the Funimation Dub aired between 2007-2008, some of the blood, smoking, and language above a mild level was censored. In addition, some 4kids names and terms were kept in order to not confuse casual viewers. This edit was rated TV-PG, although some milder episodes received a TV-Y7-FV rating.
  • Outlaw Star - Nudity was censored, violence was toned down, clothing was digitally added in and altered, sexual themes were censored and one of the episodes was not aired due to sexual themes.
  • Pokémon - some episodes were banned from television.

The first six volumes are still censored but on the Volume 7 and Aqua Unit Patrol Squad 1 DVDs, the profanity is uncensored but the nudity is still censored. But however, on the Vol. 5 DVD, there is uncensored nudity on the episode "Dickesode", but the DVD is uncensored.
  • Akria - Nudity is censored and the F-word is censored.
  • Black Lagoon - Nudity and the F-word are censored on the show. During the Vampire Twins arc, some violence was toned down.
  • The Boondocks - Strong language is bleeped out on TV, iTunes, Hulu and Netflix, but the DVD is uncensored, "Shit" is uncensored in season 4 on TV.
  • Blue Gender - The anime was censored in order to appeal to a boarder audience, nudity, sex and graphic violence were completely removed. Some of the censorship was due to the fact that the anime was originally planned to air on Toonami, but went to Adult Swim at the last minute.
  • Check it Out! with Dr. Steve Brule - Strong language and explicit dialogue are censored both on TV and DVD. Shit was censored at first, but it is uncensored after the first two seasons.
  • Code Geass - The nudity in the anime was removed.
  • Cowboy Bebop - Drug references were cut, crude language was removed and all sexual references were removed. Blood effects were so digitally removed. However, in 2015, Adult Swim used uncensored HD tapes.
  • Deadman Wonderland - For the first half of the series, language was bleeped. In the second half, it was dubbed over with less harsh dialogue.
  • Ghost in Shell: Stand Along Complex - The F-word is censored.
  • Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law - Strong language is bleeped out on TV, iTunes, Netflix and Hulu, but the DVD is uncensored.
  • Inuyasha - Nudity and sexual innuendo were censored.
  • Kill La Kill - Nudity and sexual situations were censored.
  • Metalacolypse - Strong language and nudity are censored both on TV and the first two seasons on DVD, but it is uncensored on Seasons 3 and 4 on DVD and Blu-ray. Violence was also extended on the season 3 DVD as well, but the DVD is uncensored.
  • Michiko and Hatchin - There were some edits to get rid of nudity and strong language.
  • Neon Genesis Evangelion - One scene in Episode 5 was removed due to strong sexual content. Bleeps were placed over strong language.
  • Naruto - Blood was reduced.
  • One Piece - The word "shit" was occasionally censored.
  • Rick and Morty - Strong language is always censored on Live TV in order to make the TV-14 rating. Seasons 1 and 2 are censored on Hulu and HBO Max, but are uncensored on DVD and Blu-ray. Seasons 3 and 4 are both uncensored everywhere except for Live TV. S**t is usually uncensored on TV, but some of it is censored. In episode 19, "Interdimensional Cable 2: Tempting Fate", this episode was uncensored in order to get a TV-MA rating. Nudity is always censored.
  • Robot Chicken - Strong language, explicit dialogue, and nudity are censored on TV, iTunes, Netflix, and Hulu, and the first season on DVD, but the rest of the DVDs are uncensored. "Asshole" was censored in early episodes, but since sometime in season 2, it is uncensored. "Shit" is uncensored in seasons 7 and 8 on TV, but the DVD is uncensored.
  • Space Ghost Coast to Coast - Strong language was bleeped out on the TV, it remains censored on the DVD.
  • Samurai Jack - Some blood and violent scenes are censored on TV, but in order to get a TV-14 rating.
  • SuperMansion - Strong language was bleeped out.
  • Samurai Champloo - Strong language was bleeped out, blood was digitally removed, and the nudity in the show was cut.
  • Sailor Moon - Some blood was digitally removed, nudity was removed, and sexual situations were censored.
  • Sealab 2021 - Strong language was bleeped out in both TV, iTunes, Netflix, Hulu, and DVD, but the DVD is uncensored.
  • Squidbillies - Strong language such as f**k is censored on both TV, iTunes, Netflix, Hulu, but, "asshole" was only censored in season 1, "dick" was censored until season 4, and "shit" was censored until season 9, but the DVD is uncensored.
  • Superjail - Strong language such as fuck is bleeped on TV, iTunes, Hulu and Netflix. Shit was censored in the first three seasons, but it's uncensored in Season 4. The DVD is uncensored.
  • Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - Nudity was censored.
  • Trigun - Strong language was cut, nudity was removed and violence was toned down.
  • The Venture Bros. - Strong language are bleeped out on TV, iTunes, Hulu, and Netflix, but uncensored on the DVDs. "Shit" is uncensored in Seasons 5 and 6 on TV.

  • Mr. Robot - While some episodes have been allowed to broadcast uncensored on special occasions with a TV-MA rating, the majority of episodes are censored for a TV-14 rating.
  • Sailor Moon - Some blood was digitally removed, nudity was removed, and sexual situations were censored.

  • The Simpsons - Itchy and Scratchy were absent, for unknown reasons.
