Slovenia began rating television programs in 2003, with the rating system being revamped twice. The designation of television programs began when the Slovenian government accepted a law which requires television stations to display a rating symbol, and a verbal warning at the beginning of a program, warning viewers that the program may be unsuitable for younger audiences.
Ratings[]
Gledoskop (current rating system)[]
Based on the Netherlands' Kijkwjizer system, Gledoskop (roughly meaning "Telescope") was created in 2014, and employs about six ratings. If there is no rating icon or voiceover warning present at the beginning of the program, then it is suitable for all ages. This rule applies to all the rating systems that were used in Slovenia.
- VS (vodstvo staršev, parental guidance): Parental guidance is suggested for children under is age of 12.
- 12: Not suitable for children under the age of 12.
- 15: Not suitable for children under the age of 15.
- 18: Not suitable for children under the age of 18.
- 18+: Adults only.
- 18++: Adults only. Pornography/unlawful violence is shown.
The latter two ratings are restricted by default. These programs are usually locked with a PIN, or other protection systems, and are typically only broadcasted on demand.
Content descriptors[]
Content descriptors began to be used with the current system since 2017.
- Nasilje (Violence): A program depicts violence between individuals.
- Strašljive Vsebine (Scary Content): A program contains frightening situations, sounds, and images.
- Spolnost (Sexuality): A program contains sexual content.
- Nevarno Vedenje (Dangerous Behavior): A program contains dangerous activities.
- Diskriminacija (Discrimination): A program depicts the unfair treatment of people based on their demographics.
- Zloraba Drog in/ali Alkohola (Drug and/or Alcohol Abuse): A program depicts harmful use of drugs and/or alcohol.
- Neprimeren Jezik (Inappropriate Language): A program contains profanity or vulgar slang.
2007-2014 rating system[]
The set of ratings used from 2007 to 2014 contained four ratings. This system was much more similar to the current system, but the icons have a significantly different design language.
- VS (vodstvo staršev, parental guidance): Parental guidance is suggested for young children.
- 12+: Not suitable for children under the age of 12.
- 15+: Not suitable for children under the age of 15.
- 18+: Adults only.
2003-2007 rating system[]
Only two ratings were used to designate content. These ratings did not have any official names.
- Triangle icon: Parental guidance is suggested for children under the age of 15.
- Circle icon: Not suitable for children under the age of 15.
