"Suggested for Mature Audiences" was an advisory placed on certain films approved by the Production Code administration from the middle of 1966 until the MPAA ratings system was introduced in November of 1968. This was following a revision of the Production Code in 1966 that significantly relaxed the standards of mainstream American films. The "Suggested for Mature Audiences" label also known as SMA acted as sort of a preliminary form of classification, advising that certain mature themes and content were present. Notable films released with the SMA label include In the Heat of the Night, Valley of the Dolls, In Cold Blood, Rosemary's Baby and Barbarella.
